Melaka trip 15-17 Mar 2013

Just had our breakfast at Hatten Melaka. It was a super spread breakfast.
Anw we didn't do much thing here except spending time together for  meals and some shopping time.
This is my 2nd time traveling with the in laws.

Finally its spinning

After more then 3 months, finally its done and I am happy with the end product.
Now spinning some LPs and checking on its tracking and what not. Quite surprise with its initial sound with good separation.

K1 80

Here we are, after more than 30 years in the SPF. Many with bloated tummy........lol. This is our 3rd gathering,  held at Tanah Merah.......house of Ahmad Sari.

Rather slow

Life has been rather slow for the past 2 weeks. Nevertheless, managed to finish my DIY TT (well almost) and 2 rounds of golfing at Pulai Spring and Jurong Country Club last Saturday and Thursday respectively.

My 2nd DIY TT

My blog page is still under construction. The designer is busy with her own blogging I guess.
Anyway, its 90% done........the other 10% 'akan datang'.

OK. my DIY turntable almost done. Due to some unforeseen technical difficulties, it was redesign. This time round, wood was chosen for the plinth. Many man hours spent mostly after work and weekends. Now working on the arm board and some tweaking here and there. Hope to finish it by this weekend after which can shop for the cartridge. Some pix to share.....

Parts for DIY turntable

We were back in Singapore last Sunday. The short trip to Cambodia was a good choice and all of us enjoyed it. Now, it’s time to plan for next year trip. Hehehehe.

This morning collected my platter from the post office. It arrives from Lithuania yesterday when no one was at home. It was packed in a wooden box secured and wrapped up with polyurethane tape. Inside, it was lined with foam and all the items were shrink wrap.

The platter is heavy and was beautifully fabricated with acrylic insert between 2 layers of polished aluminium. The huge bearing assembly is of high quality. I may need to redesign the plinth to accommodate this heavy platter.

Trip to Cambodia (Part 2)

Yesterday we went for sightseeing around the city. Our first stop was the Cultural Museum where many temple ruins were on display. After lunch, we walked to the Royal Palace. Unfortunately it was closed for the next 3 months due to the passing on of King Norodom. As the weather was really hot, we went back to our hotel for a rest.

In the evening after dinner we walked to the night market nearby. There were stalls selling food and customers were seated on mats on the ground. It’s a unique Khmer experience.

Today, there is not much thing to do so we did some last minute shopping. After lunch at KFC we headed back to the hotel for some rest before going for a cruise along Mekong River. The cruise starts at 5pm just in time to catch the sun set and it was a beautiful sun set indeed.

Trip to Cambodia (Part 1)

I am now in Cambodia with wifey and two daughters for a short trip. The city, Phnom Penh with road full of pot holes, lined with street vendors and overhead electric cables reminds me of what Singapore was 40 years ago. Peoples that we met since our arrival yesterday were mostly friendly. These include taxi drivers, tuk tuk riders et al.

Halal food is easily available. Even the KFC is halal. Dinner last night was at a Malaysian Restaurant at Puncak Hotel. Today we had KFC for lunch and dinner at a restaurant serving Malay food. The owner of the restaurant is a Champa Malay, native to Cambodia.

We visited the Genocide camp where 3 million Cambodian were killed en masse within 3 years during the reign of Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge. This was all in the name of LIBERATION. A sad lesson for all. Anyway, we are enjoying the trip and will be doing more visiting tomorrow........ and of course more shopping.
